Games
This page lists many games I played. I wanted to have detailed reviews but I am too busy playing new ones. Probably will update the list over time.
PC games
Many old games I enjoyed before I came to US.
- Heroes of Might and Magic series
- My first “real” game. It and the LotR movies are the stuff.
- Age of Empires 2
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
- FIFA 02 and 02 WC
- Warcraft III
- Diablo II and III
- Sid Meier’s Civilization V
Metroidvanias
“What is a man?”
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- A miserable little pile of secrets. And the most important one is that Schmoo has a chance to drop Crissaegrim.
- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
- A bit too short. Otherwise it’s great playing as the reincarnated Dracula himself.
- Metroid Dread
- I really like the EMMI mechanics. Nintendo again shows why the genre is half metroid.
- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
- One of the best Igavanias since it was made by Iga. Optimization is ass, but PS5 runs it smoothly by brute force.
- Afterimage
- A hidden gem. I heard the English translation quality was bad so the story was too cryptic. I played in original Chinese though and it was pretty decent.
- Ori (both games)
- Beautiful arts and fluid platforming. Combat system is overly simplistic though.
- Touhou Luna Nights
- Silly colorful spin-off game and short
- Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark
- Another silly colorful spin-off game
Open world
“Open your eyes.”
- The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
- BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED. PERIOD.
- The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
- A worthy sequel. Slightly worse because a bit too linear, and the material economy is too stingy for a game where you can build mechs.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2
- Pokémon should learn from it. However, navigation in this game is dog shit, and the combat is unnecessarily complicated.
- GTA V
- Driving with radio on WCTR. And Trevor waking up on a mountain top wearing lingerie is hilarious.
- Elden Ring
- At least I beat the Tree Sentinel naked with a stick and first few bosses. Eventually got bored of having to either flee from fights or repeat dodge rolls.
RPGs
“I am Ferdinand von Aegir.”
- Fire Emblem series
- A great franchise with very high replayability. A unique blend between traditional JRPG and grid based strategy game.
- Shin Megami Tensei V & VV
- Best turn-based JRPG I played. Much better than its spin-off Persona series in terms of gameplay.
- Persona 3R and 5R
- They are good and have more cultural relevance, but SMT is still much cooler.
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- An admirable attempt of mixing the better parts from SMT and Persona into one game. The result is a great game yet still slightly worse than both SMT V and P5R.
- Pokémon series
- “High quality animations” yeah as a game series it fell off hard
- Octopath Traveler
- Really good gameplay, beautiful sprites, and some of the best music.
- Tales of Arise
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Started at a really bad time to enjoy highly complicated games. Plan to eventually restart and finish it. I can see why people enjoy it even from the very small portion I played.
Mario games are fun for what they are, but not my main thing.
- Super Mario Odessey
- Super Mario Bros Wonders
Other genres
Also probably many more I did not list here.
- Mario Kart 7, 8, and World
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- Various Mario sports games
Mobile Gacha
Basically regularly updating, playable anime with varying, questionable-to-good story quality, plus a predatory card collector system.
- Honkai Star Rail
- Story is somewhat on the comedy or meme side but many jokes probably only make sense in Chinese.
- Wuthering Waves
- With glory I shall fall. Great music.
